We surprised the kids with a spring break trip to Sea World this year.  They were so excited to head off on an adventure and stay in a hotel!  We drove down on Wednesday, checked in to our hotel, and went to explore the river walk and Alamo.

The following day we woke up early and headed to Sea World.  We had fantastic weather…and surprisingly it wasn’t too crowded.  We watched all of the animal shows…played in the HUGE net playground area…ate a lot of junk food…and rode all the rides!  We had a blast!

Precious Leighton had BEGGED to play in the water all day.  I promised her on the way OUT of the park she could.  She was the only one in the water…but had a BALL!  It was freezing cold!

The following day we went to the Natural Bridge Caverns.  The kids favorite part was mining for precious stones.  After mining we went on the tour through the caverns.  They were so stunning.

Carter is hilarious, the wittiest and funniest little boy I know.  Truly if you want to laugh…hang out with Carter for 5 min.  I use to write blog posts called  “Comments from Carter” when he was a lot younger.  Everything from him really wanting to have pit hair to his experience of getting his blood drawn.   As he has gotten older,  I have stopped writing them to respect his privacy and not to embarrass him.  BUT the other day the funniest thing happened that I just HAD  to document…so I can always remember.

It was a Saturday afternoon and Ben was out of town.  I was needing to run Caroline somewhere and Leighton wanted to go with me.  Carter decided he wanted to stay home alone.    I need to mention that Carter has always been scared to death to be alone…day or night.  Needless to say, I was a little shocked that HE came up with this idea.  I told him I would be gone 45 minutes…was he SURE he wanted to stay here alone?  I was a little concerned I would be gone one minute and he would change his mind.  He convinced me he wanted to try it.  (He had his I-touch to text me if he needed me).  So we leave and I return home 45 minutes later.

ME:  “So how was it? Were you scared or worried?”

CARTER:  “Nah, not really.”

ME:  “Hmm, that surprises me!”

CARTER:  “I just stayed outside the whole time in the backyard.”

ME:  “What?  You didn’t come inside?”

CARTER:  “No way mom, it was too quiet in here.  I ran inside to get Bandit’s leash and I heard some creepy music coming from your computer.  It freaked me out so I ran back outside.   I kept annoying Bandit so he would bark.  I just wanted him to keep barking so there would be some noise.  If Bandit ever stopped barking I would dribble the basketball as long and as loud as I could just so there wouldn’t be any silence.  When I got tired of dribbling I sang as loud as I could to keep my mind off the quiet.  I had already come up with a plan if it got dark before you got home.  I would tie Bandit’s leash to the tree and climb on top of the shed.  That way I would be high enough to keep watch over everything.  No way was I going to go inside that house.”

ME:  ” So would you do it again?

CARTER:  “Yeah, if Bandit would stay with me.”

ME:  “So what’s up with your tackle box being out?”

CARTER:  “Mom, it’s a long story!”

ME:  ” I can only imagine!”

School Talent Show

Caroline was excited to enter this years talent show.  She chose to sing “My Favorite Things” by Julie Andrews.  She did such a great job!  We were so proud of her!  She got up on stage and sang the whole song perfectly.  She truly looked like a little doll up there!  Way to go Caroline!

Caroline was so excited for us to get to come watch her school program.  She was thrilled that she got the part of the HARE!  She worked so hard on her lines.   Here she is with her little bunny mask on.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s afternoon I got to attend all of the kids school parties.  They are always a lot of fun!   Of course I keep thinking how Carter is closing in on the last couple of years of having “parties” at school.  Leighton always enjoys going to the “big kids” school for their parties.  Caroline is so sweet to include Leighton in her activities.

Keeping with tradition that I started a few years ago, we had a Valentine scavenger hunt when we all got home from school.  On your mark….get set…GO!

That evening we had lasagna dinner by candlelight and special cupcakes  and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.  Ben brought me home roses and a gift certificate for a massage.  Fun Family Valentine’s Day!

While the girls were all fancied up dancing the night away, I was hanging onto some rocks 30-40 feet in the air!  My precious “little man” got to decide what we would be doing on our date night.  He asked if we could go rock climbing and I was super excited to try it!  I thought it would be a piece of cake.  I’m not at all scared of heights…and I thought that was all that mattered.  Ha…was I wrong!  It’s no easy feat climbing up a wall with rocks 1/2 the size of my foot…and I have little feet!   You use some serious arm muscles.  It was so much fun.  We laughed and climbed for about an hour.  Carter didn’t think I would be able to climb to the top of the tallest wall and ring the bell…so that’s all he had to say to make me climb up as fast as possible to ring it.  We had a blast!

After we used up all our energy climbing, we were starving.  He chose dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  I loved this sweet uninterrupted time with Carter.  We definitely need to do it more often!

The girls had been looking forward to this night for a long time…our church’s annual Daddy Daughter Dance. This was the first year that Leighton would be old enough to attend. She asked me for two weeks, “How much longer until my date?”   They had picked out their dresses and had them hidden in their closets because they didn’t want daddy to see them before the big event.  They were absolutely precious as they were getting ready that evening.  To begin with they were pampered with a bubble bath.   After they got out they picked out a nail polish they each love.  I helped the girls get ready in their bathroom.  They were darling!!  Leighton brought my phone in the bathroom so they could listen to music and jam while they were getting ready.  I painted Leighton’s nails…while Caroline dried Leighton’s hair.  We were all helping each other as my mind fast-forwarded 10 years when the girls would be doing the same thing…getting ready for a REAL date!  I got a little choked up thinking that time is FLYING!!  These sweet baby girls!  If they could end up dating someone as precious as their daddy all would be ok in my world!

Ben said they had a blast!  They had dinner and  ice cream sundaes, went on a horse carriage ride, did art’s and crafts, and danced the night away.  Ben said they couldn’t keep Leighton off the dance floor:).  (A little bit like her momma!)
