We got to celebrate Caroline all weekend!  Thursday I took cupcakes up to the school.  She was so excited to get to be the first one in her class to have a birthday!  She got to sit in the rocking chair as they sang happy birthday to her.

????????

Friday after school we had an ART party.  This party was just perfect for Caroline because her very favorite thing to do is arts/crafts.   She had helped me plan this party for weeks!

????????

We had 4 different craft stations set up.  The first station was to decorate your own picture frame by gluing sequins to the frame.

At the second station each girl had their own canvas to paint on.  They were to paint a picture of the flowers that were sitting on the middle of the table.  I was super impressed at how well they all painted!

Carter and Caroline were excited for school to start this year!  They counted down the days until meet the teacher.  Carter got in Mrs. Miller’s class…a new teacher to Florence.  She has taught 3rd grade for 6 years…I think she is going to be great for him this year!  When he got in the car after the first day of school, I asked him what he thought of Mrs. Miller.  He said, “I like her because she smiles all the time!”

Caroline has said all summer long that she wanted to be in Mrs. Middleton’s class (Carter’s first grade teacher).  So when we got the call that Caroline got Mrs. Middleton…she yelled and screamed and did a little dance!  We LOVE Mrs. Middleton!

Summer Snippets~August

As we headed into the last few weeks of summer, we tried to soak every little bit of FUN out of the days.  We had lots of friends over to swim, saw a lot of movies, ate a lot of ice cream, enjoyed lunch at the Rain Forest Café, went ice-skating, went to the Ranger’s baseball games and spent a day at the Ross Perot Museum…we didn’t want summer to end!!

We took a family vacation to Florida this year with my aunt, uncle, and cousins.  We had the BEST time!  We rented a condo right on the beach which was just perfect for the kids.  The water was gorgeous and the weather couldn’t have been better.  We stayed up late playing games, talking, reading, and watching movies.  Surprisingly our kids slept in EVERY DAY (that is not normal for Leighton).  It was so nice!   Our first day there we went for a swim and three dolphins were swimming just a little ways from us…welcoming us to Florida!

Uncle Mike took the kids crab hunting on the first night.

The first night out to dinner we went into Sea Side.  They had a lot of yummy food trucks…grilled cheese, corn dogs, and barbecue were the favorites!

????????

These sweet cousins had a BLAST together.  Great memories were made!

Uncle Mike and Brooks introduced the game RISK to Carter.  It is ALL he thought about and talked about.  This game is right up Carter’s alley!  They played until 1:00am.  The following morning, while everyone else was still sleeping, Carter crawled into bed with us and said, “So dad, I’ve been thinking about how I can win at Risk.  We need to make this alliance, get this country, etc.”  Clearly it was all he had been dreaming about!

We all enjoyed the waves and the beach.  The water temperature was perfect.  We laughed a lot as we jumped and dived under and over the waves.  The kids had boogey boards that were a lot of fun!

One of the evenings, Rosemary Beach had a large outdoor movie screen set up.  We took our chairs/blankets and had a lot of fun watching a movie under the stars.  Of course the kids had to have snow cones and popcorn!

What a fun family trip, surrounded by God’s beauty!  The kids are already asking when we can go back!
