4th of July

We headed to Oklahoma for our 4th of July tradition at my parent’s house.  It’s always full of late nights…a lot of food…a lot of swimming…and a lot of FUN cousin time!  When we arrived we headed to the firework stand for the kids to pick out whatever they wanted…throw it in the basket…for Poppi to buy! We let off fireworks at a friends house…HUGE fireworks!  A little scary…maybe not the safest environment…but Ben and Carter LOVE it!  Leighton…not so much!  Although this year,  my uncle Steve brought head phones that he uses at the gun range.  Leighton LOVED wearing them so that the fireworks were not quite so loud!

This was the first year for Hayes, my cousin Brandon’s little boy, to get to celebrate with us! They live down in Houston and don’t typically make it up for the 4th.   He is SOOO precious…and Leighton LOVED playing with him, swinging with him, and chasing him.

Meet Bandit!

We added the most precious addition to our family…a little puppy shichon.  He is half shih tzu and half bichon.  He is ADORABLE!!!  Now for those of you who know me well, I have only tolerated dogs in the past.  I wasn’t even crazy about getting a dog…but since the kids have been BEGGING for a dog for 9 years…I decided I didn’t have any real good excuses anymore.  My kids are dog CRAZY!  They always have been.  They have always loved and kissed on everyone else’s dog…and have asked weekly for YEARS for their own!!  I had always kind of said when I no longer had any babies in diapers I would THINK about it… (secretly hoping they would forget).  I also thought we would get a dog and BEN, who loves dogs, could take care of it. I am just as surprised as anyone that I am IN LOVE with this little doll.  He is absolutely DARLING!!  He doesn’t shed, doesn’t stink, is so soft, super smart…and is doing pretty well at potty training!  He goes to sleep at 10:00 and wakes up at 8:30!!  He is such a good dog!  He was 8 weeks old when we got him and weighed 5 pounds.  He is now 11 weeks old and only weighs in at 5.6 pounds.  When we take him outside to potty he isn’t crazy about the Texas heat.  He always finds some shade.  When he comes back inside he lies down on the cool tile.

The kids didn’t know we were getting a dog.  Ben went to get him and brought him home.  He opened the door and stuck Bandit’s little face inside the door…the kids went crazy!  Carter kept telling him, “I love you!  I will always love you! This is the best day EVER!”  Leighton calls him “buddy”…and plays with him NON-STOP!  Caroline is the mother hen and always wants to make sure he is OK.

Carter was so excited to get to attend our church summer camp in June!  Camp Revolution was for 3-5th graders.  He got to go with cousins Kellan, Canon, Cassie,  Anna and Olivia!  He had a BLAST!  He loved swimming in the lake, the trapeze, bonchi ball, and hanging with friends.  He wanted to make sure that Hunter was going to be in his cabin:).   He told us that “mail-call” was one of his favorite times of the day.  We sent him little treasures with each letter…which he LOVED!  I asked him what the bible lessons were about and he very seriously told me, “They taught us about a road.  Everyone is on a road and you come to a split in the road.  You get to choose which road you will take.  Will you take the road to Jesus or will you take the road leading away from what God wants to do in your life?”  (Oh good, he was listening!)
